On May 20, 2026, CICAE—the Association of Private and Independent Schools—was received by Román Rodríguez, the regional minister of Education, Science, Universities, and Vocational Training for the Xunta de Galicia, and by Judith Fernández Novoa, to discuss various issues of educational interest.
A key topic was discussed during the meeting:
- The standardization of admission requirements to Galician universities so that students enrolled in the IB Diploma Program can achieve 14 points, on an equal footing with students from other autonomous communities.
Representing the Association were José Antonio Rois, president of CICAE and general director of the Sauces Educational Institution; Jacobo Olmedo, principal of SEK Atlántico School; and Jorge Muiños, principal of Obradoiro School.
Here at CICAE, we view the meeting we held with the Regional Ministry very positively; they demonstrated a receptive and collaborative attitude toward the issues raised.
During the meeting, it became clear how important it is to avoid situations that could lead to unequal opportunities for students and make Galician universities less attractive, and there was a shared understanding of the need to move toward solutions that promote greater educational equity and competitiveness in Galicia.
We continue to work to promote improvements and opportunities for schools and their students, fostering education on an equal footing for all.
