IB Learning Communities – 1st Online Session

On November 19, 2024, the 1st Online Session of the IB Learning Communities for International Baccalaureate Coordinators and Teachers took place.

In three parallel sessions (PYP, MYP and Diploma Programme) we explored:

Assessment in the PYP – Session led by Sergio Sánchez (Alameda International School)

• The fundamental principles of assessment in the PYP: What do we really want to assess in our students?
• Different assessment tools and strategies: How can we get a complete picture of our students’ learning?
• The role of formative assessment: How can we use assessment to improve teaching and learning?
• How to communicate assessment results to families: How can we involve families in the assessment process?

Approaches to Learning in the MYP – Session led by Paloma Álvarez (Colegio Virgen de Europa)

• How can I foster critical thinking in my students? How to create an environment where reflection and constructive criticism are valued, using open questions, debates, case studies, and activities that invite students to question what they have learned.
• What challenges does a teacher face depending on the subject they teach?

Laboratories (training, lab practicals, real equipment needs for the DP) – Session led by Germán Tenorio (Yago School)

Lab practicals play a fundamental role in students’ education, as they allow for deep immersion in scientific concepts through hands-on inquiry. Laboratories are essential for learning in science subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Systems and Societies.

The main objective of CICAE’s Learning Communities is to share interests, resources, difficulties and best practices among teachers in order to collaborate in their training process and professional growth in the field of the International Baccalaureate.
