More than 1,200 students united in sports so that children suffering from cancer can practice exercise as a non-pharmacological therapy.

“Sports against childhood cancer” has been the motto of the IX CICAE Sports Games, in collaboration with the Unoentrecienmil Foundation.

Madrid – May 7, 2025. The Association celebrated this Tuesday, May 6, the ninth edition of the CICAE Sports Games in Alcobendas, where more than one thousand two hundred boys and girls of 5th and 6th grade of Primary School, from 21 private schools in the Community of Madrid, participated.

The students enjoyed a day full of fun, in which the benefits of sport were highlighted. The CICAE Sports Games aim to promote values such as companionship, effort, the spirit of self-improvement, tolerance of opponents and fair play.

The José Caballero Municipal Sports Center of Alcobendas has been the setting for the practice of different non-competitive sports modalities, such as catch the flag, athletics, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, kickball and colpbol. The teachers of these schools have collaborated in the design of the regulations of each game and in coordinating their organization.

Within the framework of the IX CICAE Sports Games, a solidarity initiative was carried out for the benefit of the Unoentrecienmil Foundation.

Under the slogan ‘Sports against childhood cancer’, the participants in the games have joined forces so that children suffering from cancer can practice exercise as a non-pharmacological therapy, thanks to the Unoentrecienmil Accelerator project at the La Paz Hospital in Madrid. The aim is to raise awareness among students about the real impact of physical exercise on health, specifically on the health of children suffering from cancer.

Elena Cid, General Director of CICAE, highlighted the importance of the solidarity sports day ‘Sports against childhood cancer’: “With this initiative, we want students to become aware of the power of physical exercise in the health and recovery of children with cancer. And that, through their participation, they become an active part of this solidarity goal: to offer hope and improve the quality of life of children fighting against childhood cancer”.

The practice of sports is not only beneficial for physical health, but also helps social development and improves academic performance. For this reason, CICAE schools are committed to sport as an essential part of their educational projects, as well as to raising awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyle habits from childhood.

The Unoentrecienmil Foundation has been a partner of the CICAE Sports Games. The sports day has had a solidary purpose and a commitment to children that goes beyond the promotion of sporting values: The Unoentrecienmil Accelerator.

Since the Unoentrecienmil Accelerator was inaugurated at La Paz Hospital, dozens of sick children do physical exercise as part of their treatment, prescribed by their doctor.

According to the Spanish Registry of Childhood Tumors, three new cases of pediatric cancer are diagnosed daily in Spain. The good news is that approximately 83% of patients are cured.
